A light elegant fairy kitchen has been created to tantalize your taste buds and every other sense. We set about to create a place to cook healing organic foods in a conscious space, using environmental products, reclaimed materials, hand tooled wood. A team of local talent and lots of love co-created this magical space.

The vision calls for integration of the kitchen with the living room, meal time with social and sacred time.
The hearth, gas fired stove, as the heart and home. Note: built-in recycling chute with lever for sorting glass, metal, and plastic.

Concept designs early in the remodel. Notice how true to form the finished kitchen is to the conceptual illustrations.

Fine handcrafted details are all around, from the flower shaped copper oven hood with vent, hooks for hanging pots, and lights on flower “stamens.” The oven fan has been installed in the eaves outside to reduce noise. Countertops surrounding the gas stove are hand laid in cobblestones from the local beaches. More details are light sculptures of dogwood with cougar bone, and arbutus branch cabinet handles. Kitchen counter has built in dish drainage with a river of rocks and “fern grotto” inlaid (detail difficult to see). Original kitchen cabinets were refinished with a bold colour wash, inlay, and wood grain detail. Countertops are made with the same hard wood flooring.

The original kitchen after some early modifications. One can see the awkward layout and absence of design. The wonderful light and views in the kitchen were not visible in the living room until this wall came tumbling down.

The hand tooled bar top, sawn out of an old-growth fir tree root stranded on the beach near our home, naturally curved to perfectly fit the dimensions of the island. Luminous hard wood floors were salvaged from an old gymnasium in Victoria, BC. It took a month to strip, scrape and clean each piece of tongue-and-groove eastern maple and install.

A true team effort, this kitchen embodies the conscious energy and labours of love by the many who helped see this utopia to fruition.
